The Patricians were Nobles who owned large estates and were the descended from the founders of the city. The Plebians were ordinary peasants and craftsmen.
The next more important people in this system is the Two Consuls, The Magistrates and the Tribunes.
The Two Consuls governed the city, they were elected for one year and could not be elected again until 10 years had passed. They both had to agreee before a decision could be made.
Tribunes were appointeed to protect the ordinary people against unfair treatment.
The Magistrates were officials who were appointed to be judges,to look after the cities finances and other jobs.
The next step higher then these 3 above is the senate the only way to get into the senate is to go through the Magistrates. When a Magistrates retrired they became members of the senate. They had a lot of experience and gave advice to the consuls. The senate became very important and ended up controlling Rome.
